Miniature Companies/Commercial
I am open to commissions for reproduction/commercial use from miniature companies or individuals who have a more specific brief. Like all artists I will always have a style, even when following a design, so please see my body of work as reference. The brief should also include relevant information about the moulding/casting process as this will affect the design.
Please get in contact to discuss payment.
Sculpting Requests
Please get in contact if you would like a custom miniature made! When typing up your request please include/consider:
A written description of your idea
Any useful reference media
Posing/action
Approximate size/height
Intended base size/shape
Addition of a sculpted/integrated base
If it needs to fit within a certain space (e.g. within a regiment)
I am just an artist who wants to make cool things. I'm easy to talk to so don't hesitate to reach out. Further information is available below, please read for more insights into the process and delivery. There are some more serious/detailed sections to help you make a decision when asking me to sculpt for you. Thanks!
MINIATURE COMMISSION DETAILS
Designing Your Miniature
I have my own vision and style, which is what you will get if you ask me to make you a miniature. Hopefully this is the reason why you're asking me to make you something! In your brief please describe the miniature with as much or little detail as you like with references if desired. I appreciate having very loose prompts and being allowed to have free rein to some degree, much like a tattoo artist - especially if that's exactly the reason why you want me to be involved! Be aware of my portfolio and consider this when making requests, though I'm open-minded about subject matter and settings that I have yet to try sculpting within and so I'll consider each design on a case-by-case basis.
Due to the nature of 3D printing and moulding/casting, designs will be made with this in mind. I also prefer monopose for this reason, but miniatures may be in multiple pieces for moulding or easier printing (a separated shield or arm etc). These decisions may be planned at the start, but may also be made during the process.
See my rough pricing guide below, but quotes are generated based on the specifics of each design.
The Sculpting Process
Once the brief has been discussed and the deposit received, then I will begin with blocking in the volumes/creating the armature. The early stages of sculpting are pretty ugly, but I may check in at certain milestones if necessary to ask questions or check specifics like the pose etc. You can ask for a few revisions, though keep in mind that this is much easier to do on a digital sculpt. A hand sculpted mini will be cured/baked at multiple stages throughout the process.
For hand sculpted miniatures I use a variety of materials including various polymer clays and epoxy putties - my preference is currently Beesputty, but it depends on what I’m making. Be aware that any moulding process may damage the mini. Other materials may be used to supplement the sculpt such as metal rods, ball bearings for eyes or a metal ring for a bulls nose etc.
For digital sculpts I may print an example for my own use to help check the mini, but I cannot provide a master print of digital sculpts. You will receive the final sculpts as unsupported .STL files (or other format if requested).
My sculpting time frame is fluid and organic as I work on my own and other projects simultaneously and every sculpt is unique, but I can give completion estimates at certain milestones. If there is a strict deadline then I can manage time appropriately.
PRICING/DELIVERY
Price Guide
Projects may vary in cost depending on specific details or requirements, extra parts or the predicted time investment etc. As a rough estimate you may consider a 28mm-32mm tall miniature on a 25-30mm base being around £300.
Supporters on Patreon and Tribes will receive 5% off the total quote for non-commercial commissions.
Deposit
50% of the funds are required up front as a non-refundable deposit.
Digital Sales
For digital items within the UK, deposit and final payment can be made by bank transfer. For international sales I will generate an order via Gumroad.
Physical Sales
For the time being I am only shipping physical items within the UK (not including Northern Ireland). If you live outside of the UK I'm happy to send to a representative in the UK or post if you are visiting. The general international customs and packaging situation and responsibilities are too much for me right now.
IMPORTANT INFO
References
Feel free to include some references with some text explaining what I should infer from each. It's also ok if you just want me to create something from text prompts.
Examples of Appropriate References:
Your own sketches/concept art
Any text, iconography or media portraying widely used fictional/mythical/historical concepts (orcs, minotaurs etc)
Images from an existing IP only as reference for the pose, a style or some abstract concept as rough inspiration (e.g a demon that could be used in ‘X’ game)
Examples of Inappropriate References:
Images from an existing IP and asking for a copy without permission
Asking to replicate iconography/branding of a real organisation without permission
Offensive/illegal imagery (common sense needed here - demonic entities and dark subjects are fine)
AI generated media of any kind
License
For commercial sales the terms of the license or complete handover of the sculpture is agreed on at the start of the process.
For individuals/personal use commissions, you have the right to use your mini for personal use in any way. You can mould it at home for your own use, however if you decide that you want to reproduce the miniature for sale afterwards then please get in contact to discuss. Please don’t upload the file and sell it on with or without alterations. Be cool, besides it’s your own unique mini and you should enjoy that!
I appreciate being credited on product listings, social media and generally whenever the item is shared in public - it would mean a lot to me to have that support!
Public Sharing
I may share finished media of your miniatures as part of my own portfolio and promotional content on all platforms including as content for YouTube. If it’s digital I may also print my own and paint to photograph. If you are reproducing a physical mini I’ve made then I will always appreciate receiving my own copy as a memento if possible!
I may also share in-progress content, however if you do not want me to share this (for example if it’s a gift for someone or a release that you want to keep secret) then let me know in advance. I like sharing the work I’m doing and I think it’s interesting and possibly helpful for others to see it. I also think it supports smaller companies by giving them free advertisement. However if you would really prefer to keep in-process work private either temporarily or privately then let me know in advance otherwise I'll potentially go ahead with it.
Incomplete Payment
The finished order won’t be sent until the remaining funds are paid, including any additional costs quoted and agreed on due to major changes made during the sculpting process. If the rest of the payment isn’t received within 28 days after the item(s) are confirmed finished then I reserve the right to use the model in any way for my own purposes including finding another buyer or reproducing it. If the model is obviously and intrinsically a part of your own intellectual property then I would alter it beforehand. The deposit and final payment are non-refundable.
